Basic Types of Cookware

Fry Pan/Skillet: An essential and versatile pan with rounded sides that is often used to simmer foods with cooking oil.


Cast Iron Skillet: Similar to fry pans but are made out of cast iron. These skillets are heavy and need to be preseasoned to avoid food from sticking.


Sauté Pan: Similar to fry pans, but are deeper with straight sides. This cookware can be used with a lid. Not only is it used for sautéing, but also deep-frying, searing, and cooking sauces.


Sauce Pan: An essential and versatile pan used to make sauces and soups. This cookware can be used with a lid. They are often used to boil food such as eggs and noodles.


Stockpot: A large, deep pot used to cook liquid foods. These types of foods usually do not need to be cooked directly over the heat. This cookware can be used with a lid.
